This summer I attended the Advance Skills Workshop “Smart Energy for a Better World“, a study tour organized by ABB Corporate Research Center in Krakow and EESTEC AGH Krakow.
From 6th to 12th July 2014, together with other 17 students from all over the world, I had the opportunity to improve my soft and hard/technical skills as electrical engineer.
The study tour gave me the chance to get carreer-related experience of modern solutions in the field of energy, automation and electrical science and to have a closer look at how experts and scientists work in R&D, perfectly completing the lack of practicality from the University classes.
The contents of the workshop were very interesting and useful, with a good mix of theoretical lectures and practical labs, regarding different topics, such as:
- Advanced numerical simulations
- Power electronics
- Transients phenomena
- Smart Protection
- Advanced diagnostics
- Electronics
- Ferroresonance phenomena
During the selection process, after sending the standard application with CV and Cover Letter, I had also been interviewed through a mobile call by a recruiter of the ABB Corporate Research Center and having been accepted among other 70 applicants, gave me a lot of self-esteem.
Furthermore, during the event I had the opportunity to have frequent conversations with some of the HR Specialists of the ABB Corporate Research Center, that helped me a lot to better understand recruitment process and what the complany is looking for in its employees.
Certainly, this experience had a special meaning for me because ABB is the company where I always wanted to work and after having been in touch with it, I’m highly inspired to achieve always better results to make it possible.
A very special thanks to EESTEC AGH Krakow, without which all the event wouldn’t have been possible.
